Jonathan Kuminga talks between Warriors, Kings are cooked

Golden State Warriors were involved in trade negotiations for a while now, and as the deadline approaches, it’s hard to tell if they have anything to close the deal with. With Jimmy Butler is out for the seasonthe need for depth is important, but the main story is whether Jonathan Cumminga he will be granted a trade request.

Kuminga and the Warriors seemed to have a bad relationship since last season, and with head coach Steve Kerr not playing him for 16 straight games, the writing was on the wall. There are some teams that have shown interest in Cummings, but the Warriors are certainly looking for more than what they are being offered.

The Sacramento Kings were one of the teams interested in Kuminga, but since they traded for De’Andre Hunter, those talks have cooled. Apparently, talks for Cummings never went anywhere until the offseason, according to Clutch Point’s Brett Siegel.

“One Warriors source told ClutchPoints that talks with the Kings about Cumings, both dating back to the offseason and before the start of 2026, never went anywhere because Sacramento had ‘nothing worth sacrificing assets for,'” Siegel wrote. “Malik Monk and DeMar DeRozan, the two players the Kings kept making available in the Cummings talks, were of no interest to the Warriors, and now that Keon Ellis is gone (Golden State had interest), the chances of a trade between the two teams are essentially zero.”

It seems like the Kings have moved on and had to find another job elsewhere, and now the Warriors are likely fishing elsewhere.

At this point, the Warriors may have to lower the price if they really want to trade Cummings before the deadline. They were also one of the teams that showed a lot of interest in Giannis Antetokounmpo, but they know they will have to give up the farm for him.
