Josh Giddei pulls off a feat last accomplished by Michael Jordan in 1988-89
When is it Chicago Bulls traded Alex Caruso for Josh Giddei just before the start of the 2024-25 season, they were clowns. At the time, not everyone knew that it was Bulls would provide the exact ecosystem Giddy needed to be in progress. Giddy is pushing for an All-Star nod early in the season, as he led the Bulls to a 24-point comeback against the Philadelphia 76ers for a 113-111 win on Tuesday night.
Giddei refilled the stats. In fact, the Bulls star posted another triple-double (his second straight), dropping 29 points, 15 rebounds and 12 assists while shooting the ball efficiently from the field, going 10-19 overall (2-4 from beyond the arc). Notching another triple-double, Giddy pulled off the feat he was the last to achieve Michael Jordan in franchise history.
According to the official ClutchPoints account on X (formerly Twitter), Giddea became the first A Bulls player since Jordan posted at least two consecutive triple-doubles during the 1988-89 season.
During that aforementioned campaign, Jordan posted a seven-game triple-double streak. Jordan isn’t exactly the first player that comes to mind whenever the topic of a triple-double comes up, but there was a time when the Bulls needed him to do it all, and to rise to the occasion, as he usually does, he did.
As for Giddy, he’s shaping up to be more of a triple-double threat than Jordan ever was. The Bulls star already has 20 triple-doubles in his young career (for reference, Jordan had 28), and there are sure to be more to come given the amount of responsibility he carries for this budding Bulls team.
Josh Giddei delivers the goods for the Bulls in a 24-point comeback against the 76ers

Giddy is a mismatch, and facing a 76ers team that relies so heavily on its small guards to create on offense was a perfect matchup for him. The Bulls may have been coming from behind all night, but Giddy stuck to the task and led his team to a 113-111 victory despite being down 24 points, 65-41, in the second quarter.
The 76ers were so scared of him late in the game that they sent multiple defenders at him as he waltzed to the rim. As a result, Nikola Vucevic was left wide open in the corner, and immediately drilled the green board that gave Chicago their sixth win of the season in seven attempts.
With Giddy making the jump, this Bulls team may not be as big of a mirage as some think.
