Josh Giddei wins the competition for the worst tackle in the first game of the season
Chicago is called the “Windy City”, but was it at the united center on wednesday night too? Probably not, but the Bulls are guarding Josh Giddei threw a shot in the season opener at home against the Detroit Pistons that looked like it was blown off the mark.
During one possession in the first quarter, Giddei tried to create a play as the shot clock wound down. Facing the defense of Pistons guard Auzar Thompson, Giddy tried to beat the shot clock with a pull-up from the 3-point line.
But his attempt was unsuccessful. It was nowhere near the basket or the backboard. Maybe Thompson got a piece of skin, which affected the trajectory of the ball. Either way, Giddy’s blunder looked comical and gave the internet something to laugh about.

“THEY WON’T EVEN LET YOU STAY WITH GIDDY ON 2k TF WHO WAS HE THINKING” fan common on X, formerly Twitter.
“Damn, that’s $90 million, huh?” a wrote a fanperhaps referring to a four-year contract extension that Giddy signed with the Bulls in September – except it was for $100 million.

The fan tried to give Giddea benefit of the doubt: “It had to be a block because there’s no way he missed this badly,=.”

Well, fans can say whatever they want about Giddy’s hitting, but at the end of the day, he and the Bulls got the job done, as Chicago beat the Pistons 115-111. Giddy played a big role in that win, with the 23-year-old guard from Australia scoring 19 points on 5-for-12 shooting to go along with 11 assists and five rebounds, plus a block in 29 minutes of action.
Meanwhile, Nikola Vucevic and Matas Buzelis had 28 and 21 points, respectively, for the Bulls, who made a big statement right at the door of the 2025-26 season.
The 1-0 Bulls will look to maintain their form when they defeat the Orlando Magic on the road on Saturday.
