Josh Giddy gives Lakers flashbacks after full-court shot

During the Los Angeles Lakers’ only visit to the Windy City last season, they left stunned after a Josh Giddy’s full-court shot that beat the Chicago Bulls. And on Monday night, during the Lakers’ annual stop in Chicago, Giddy hit another full-court shot, though this one he didn’t count as it did after the referee’s whistle, and the stakes weren’t nearly as high.
Josh Giddy’s full-court shot on Monday came in the fourth quarter of the Bulls’ game against the Lakers, but the Lakers had a bigger lead and it wasn’t the end of the game. Last season, the Lakers trailed by a point in the final seconds of a game.
Austin Reeves made a basket to end the game with just over three seconds left. The Bulls had no timeouts and had to go the length of the court to have a shot to win. Instead of pressing the ball, the Lakers allowed Giddy to dribble unhindered all the way to the half court line where he took a poorly contested shot that found the bottom of the net.
The Lakers would go on to win the season 129-118. With the loss, the Bulls fell back to .500 at 23-23. They are a half game behind the Orlando Magic for the 8th seed in the Eastern Conference standings and only a full game behind the Atlanta Hawks for the 9th seed.
Giddy has been a revelation for the Bulls this seasonand he made a case for his first All-Star selection. Entering Monday’s game, he had appeared in 32 games, including 22 starts, logging just over 32 minutes per game. He averaged a career-high 18.8 points, 8.8 rebounds and 8.9 assists on 46.4 percent shooting from the field, 37.3 percent from the 3-point line and 76.5 percent from the free throw line.
