Josh Hart ‘horribly’ admits his ‘bad side’

After starting 77 regular season games last time out, Josh Hart has yet to make a single start this campaign for the New York Knicks. He is of course playing through a long-term nerve injury in his arm which first appeared in May and led to surgery during the playoffs last season.

Despite this, he produced some characteristically determined performances, something he believes in it depends at least in part on the emotions he feels.

“That’s what makes me. There’s a good side to it and sometimes a bad side. Chicago was the bad side. I was visibly upset, my body language was terrible. I was frustrated and I have to take responsibility for it. I was terrible,” Hart said, referring to a recent clip from the 126-seat Bu-1. Knicks Videos.

Hart received after the game that he still feels numbness in his finger and expects it will take some time to fully recover. However, that work goes hand in hand with exercising control over his emotions.

“It’s the only thing about me that I wear my heart on my sleeve. I have to try to control it. I’ve been trying for 30 years. I have to make sure, no matter the situation, that I breathe life into these guys and I don’t take life away,” he explained.

Under new coach Mike Brown, Hart experienced the biggest role change of his tenure with the Knicks, moving from a near-constant starter to a backup role earlier this year. Against the Bulls, he delivered what coach Mike Brown called an “old” performance, finishing with 14 points and nine rebounds in 26 minutes off the bench, per SNI.

Last season, Hart averaged career-highs of 13.7 points, a career-high 9.6 rebounds and 5.9 assists. This season, averages have understandably dropped to just 6.2 points, 7.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists.

However, as he showed against the Bulls recently, Hart is slowly returning to full form.
