Josh Hart is out for surgery on a hand injury

With New York Knicks fans are trying to be patient to start the season, amid a weak start after reaching the Eastern Conference finals last season and title aspirations this year, some injuries have cropped up recently. After Josh Hart missed the season opener for the Knickshe played through a hand injury as the star talks about weighing certain options.

Hart is a New York juggernaut who can contribute in any way on the court, almost acting as the glue for stars like Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns, Mikal Bridgesand more. Currently, the Athletic reports that Hart is dealing with a “nerve injury” in the hand.

“The pain mostly affects the fourth finger on his shooting hand, but the feeling goes in and out of his middle and little fingers, not only on the field but in everyday life tasks,” wrote Fred Katz and James L. Edwards III.

Hart reportedly suffered the injury last May, had surgery after the end of last season, but re-injured it before training camp in a scrimmage. Another operation is needed, but Hart wants it done after the season, as it would keep him out for two to three months.

“It’s probably going to be a process until I get better,” Hart said. “The arm will be what it is. I’m constantly working (on set). It will come. I’m not going to have surgery.”

While it is the basketball world said some Knicks players need to play betterthere’s no question it’s Hart who’s off to a slow start, shooting 21.1 percent from the field through four games. His role has looked different so far with the injury and under new head coach Mike Brown, as he comes off the bench and plays fewer minutes than before, though he’s “cool” with anything.

“I’m bummed I didn’t start,” Hart said. “That’s what I want to do in the season. For me, there’s a different way to approach it mentally. Obviously, when you have guys that are questionable and a game-time decision, then my role might be different and I might not know what my role is until there’s an hour on the clock or 35 minutes on the clock.”

It remains to be seen how Hart will deal with the injury as New York looks to contend for a title this season.
