Josh Hubbard explodes in a historic first half against Auburn


Josh Hubbard left in the first half on a historic night for Mississippi State Bulldog vs. Auburn matchup Tigers on Wednesday night.

Hubbard is going through his junior year of his collegiate career with the Bulldogs. He is one of the top scorers in the country, proving that status with his first half display against Auburn.

Zvezda’s guard burned the nets during the first 20 minutes of the game. He put together a line of 35 points, four rebounds and two steals. He shot 13-of-18 from the field, including 9-of-12 from beyond the arc. His elite 3-point shooting allowed him to make program history setting a new record for most 3-pointers made in a game.

Josh Hubbard enjoyed one of the best games of his career and was able to cap it off by leading Mississippi State to a 91-85 home victory over Auburn.

His first-half burst gave the Bulldogs a 49-33 halftime lead. Although the Tigers fought back in the second half, the hosts responded by making enough big moves down the stretch to keep their opponents at bay.

Three players scored in double figures for Mississippi State in the win, including Hubbard. He finished with outstanding statistics of 46 points, nine rebounds, three assists and two steals. He shot 15 of 27 overall, including 10 of 16 from downtown and 6 of 9 from the charity stripe. Jaden Epps followed with 13 points and three assists, Sean Jones Jr. had 12 points and five assists, while Ja’Boree McGee had seven points and four assists.

Mississippi State improved to 13-13 overall, going 5-8 in SEC play so far. They are ranked 12th in the conference standings, above the Oklahoma Sooners and Ole Miss Rebels. However, they trail the Tigers and Georgia Bulldogs.

Mississippi State will be looking forward to their next matchup as they will be on the road. They take on the South Carolina Gamecocks and tip-off will take place on February 21st at 1:00 PM ET.
