Jusuf Nurkić gives up the sentimental answer in his return to Phoenix
Perhaps the underrated return belongs Jusuf Nurkic from Utah Jazz. The current backup center is one of many in Utah’s rotation. However, one season ago, Phoenix Suns trade Nurkic to the Charlotte Hornets just before the 2024-25 trade deadline.
It turned out to be a blessing in disguise for both parties. However, the Bosnian center appreciated his time in Phoenix. When asked about his imminent return, Nurkic said something from the heartbut quite interesting.
“I don’t think it’s a question for me,” Nurkic said earlier this week in Salt Lake City, via AZCentral’s Duane Rankin . “I think it’s probably for (Suns CEO Josh Bartelstein) or a lot of people who are actually in charge.
“I loved (Suns owner) Matt Ishby because he cared, he loved my teammates and my time there.
He averaged 10.3 points and 10.6 rebounds in 101 games and 99 starts. Nurkic was effective, but a host of issues, ranging from playing time to inside the office, led to his eventual departure.

In the NBA, some teams often use addition by subtraction. The same could be said for Nurkic, but it turns out Phoenix getting Mark Williams and Khaman Maluach this offseason was a vision all along.
Now he is a great veteran with a young and inexperienced team in jazz, with some new pieces. For example, Walker Kessler has shown great promise as a modern edge-protecting big man.
Not to mention, Lauri Markkanen has evolved into a potential superstar at his position. Finally, sophomore forward Kyle Flipowski stepped up, but everyone can be a user Nurkic.
He understands being a professional, being a playmaker at his position and how to build these guys up.
It may have been a tough outing in the Valley of the Sun, but it could be the best thing to happen to Nurkic. He is in a place where he is valued and where his talents will be used to a significant extent.
