Karl-Anthony Towns’ blunt response to the bench in crunch time
On Tuesday evening, New York Knicks achieved a comfortable victory for the hosts via the Sacramento Kingspulled away late for a 103-87 win. One player who in this case was not on the floor for the Knicks was the great man Karl-Anthony Townswho was taken out of the rotation for almost the last seven minutes of the game.
After the competition, Towns became 100% real how he took head coach Mike Browns’ decision to keep him on the bench.
“He saw what he saw,” Towns said, per Jared Schwartz of the New York Post . “We won, that’s the most important thing.
“At the end of the game, we had a group on the floor that played well,” Brown said. “It was a close game, so I just got that group to the end of the game, which I’ve done before. We’ve got Dews, who’s not a starter, (Mitchell Robinson) there, who’s not a starter. We should have won.”
All in all, the Knicks definitely needed to come away with a win, as Brown stated, given how poorly they’ve played in recent weeks.
While New York was able to pick up a few wins over lottery teams over the past week, the team is still playing far from its best basketball, and Towns’ lack of production, at least relative to expectations, has been cited as a big reason why.
With this being the case, many are wondering if the Knicks could consider trading the big man before the Feb. 5 deadline, especially now that the Milwaukee Bucks are calling up Giannis Antetokounmpo, as ESPN’s Shams Charania reported.
Either way, the Knicks next take the floor on Wednesday against the Toronto Raptors.
