Karl-Anthony Towns is questionable for the 76ers as he struggles with back spasms

Conversation environment Karl-Anthony Towns revolved more around his future than what he is currently doing on the field. He can change the narrative, at least in part, by dominating the Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid-led Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday afternoon. Unfortunately, his hosting status is up in the air. Cities is listed interrogatively due to back spasms in the chest, according to SNI’s Ian Begley.

The five-time All-Star center played just 20 minutes in New York 120-66 demolition of the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday, so perhaps the extra rest will give him enough time to freshen up before tip-off at 3 p.m. ET.

If Towns can stay focused on his production and outside of the trade rumors and injury concerns (he’s only missed three games this season), then New York should theoretically be in great shape. The Knicks have a recipe for success in their cupboard. They just need to mix the ingredients properly.

The Detroit Pistons are limited by 3-point shooting, the Boston Celtics still without Jayson TatumThe Toronto Raptors are still coming into their own, and the 76ers will always be a wild card due to their high risk of injury. The Knickerbockers have what it takes to win the East from a roster standpoint. Their biggest question marks right now concern their head coach Mike Brown’s locker room gripand Towns fits into the offense.

They’re obviously key, to be clear, but maybe they can be addressed before the playoffs. Many believe that the only solution is trade. Time will tell if the organization decides to take such action. In the meantime, however, New York must maximize the talents of Karl-Anthony Towns. He has the ability to lift the franchise to heights it hasn’t seen since 1999: The NBA Finals.

The three-time third-team All-NBA selection is averaging 20.8 points, 11.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists while shooting 46.9 percent from the field and 36.3 percent from 3-point range during the 2025-26 season. His numbers are down everywhere, in some cases significantly. This is a turning point for his career with the Knicks, and perhaps for the team’s season.

But first, Towns has to get healthy. Fans will be interested to see if the big man is able to compete in the Xfinity Mobile Arena.
