Karl-Anthony Towns is unlikely to be traded at the deadline amid an uncertain future

As the league counts down the days until NBA trade deadlineone surprising name that has emerged in recent weeks was New York Knicks star Karl-Anthony Towns. The Knicks have struggled lately and have fallen out of the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference standings. Are there any potential changes, including Towns possibly being on the move by the trade deadline?
Not so fast. The Knicks supposedly they don’t ask to trade Karl-Anthony Towns at the deadline, and we haven’t actually had serious discussions about a potential deal, according to ClutchPoints NBA insider Brett Siegel. During a recent episode of ‘ClutchScoops,’ Siegel reported that any talk regarding a potential Towns trade from the Knicks side of things is simply evaluating interest and offers.
But even if the Knicks don’t want to part ways with Towns this season, his future in New York could be much less certain. The Knicks originally acquired Towns in a blockbuster trade with the Minnesota Timberwolves just before the 2024-25 season. He has one full year left on his contract after this one, and has a player option for the 2027-28 season.
Siegel admits the Knicks are in full win mode in their pursuit of a championship. In doing so, they are fluid in the sense that they are willing to evaluate the roster more often and therefore restructure the team more often to achieve that goal. Along those lines, Towns could eventually be traded before his contract expires if the organization feels it necessary to build a title-winning roster.
As were the Knicks declining, Towns had in terms of his overall production as well. But for the most part, he’s played at a solid level this year. He appeared in 41 games with only about 32 minutes per game. He averaged 20.8 points, 11.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists while shooting 46.9 percent from the field, 36.3 percent from the 3-point line and 86 percent from the free throw line.
