Karl-Anthony Towns of the Knicks interrupts Draymond Green’s antics after the Warriors’ loss
It has been proclaimed ad nauseam, but Karl-Anthony Towns is the key to New York Knicks reaching the NBA Finals for the first time this century. It is especially important when Jalen Brunson is not on the court. Fans hoped that the star center would lift the team to victory over Golden State Warriors in the absence of a point guard, but he was not at his best offensively on Thursday night. The cities shared some unforgettable moments with Draymond Greenhowever.
The four-time NBA champion and notorious agitator drew a reckless foul on the Knicks big man, grabbing his leg. He also argued with an official after being called for another and spoke to Towns himself during the contest. The three-time third-team All-NBA selection was probably already frustrated after the 126-113 road loss, but facing Green can be exhausting in itself. He did his best to stay strong when he talks to the media.
“It’s not important in my life,” Towns said of his opponent’s antics, per Stefan Bondi of the New York Post . “I’m fine.”
The five-time All-Star answer is ripe, but what Knickerbockers fans really want to see is him dominating the floor. Despite grabbing a whopping 20 rebounds against the Warriors, Karl-Anthony Towns scored a modest (for him at least) 17 points on 6-of-14 shooting. Brunson is nursing a sprained ankleTowns will need to operate as the No. 1 offensive option. He certainly has the skills to handle that role in the short term.
With or without the face of the franchise, New York (25-16) is depending on the cities to be increased his level of play during the Knicks’ upcoming three-game stretch. Perhaps he can take out some of the frustration he may have felt toward Draymond Green when he faces the Phoenix Suns (24-17). Opening night is Saturday at 7:30 PM ET.
