Kawhi Leonard receives injury notice for game against Magic

The LA Clippers have struggled to get wins in recent weeks, losing eight of their last nine games. Kawhi Leonard fell in the first game of that stretch, but the Clippers hope he’s nearing a return to the court.

With the Clippers ready to fight Orlando Magic at Florida on Thursday night, the team’s injury report indicates that Leonard is listed as “Out” with a sprained right ankle.

Before the team’s weekend matchup against the Boston Celtics, Kawhi Leonard was seen doing a conditioning run up and down the bleachers at TD Garden.

Leonard suffered a sprained ankle in the fourth quarter of the Clippers’ loss to the Miami Heat on Nov. 3 and is out with the same injury. As Leonard continues to miss games, the Clippers continue to falter.

The team has won just their last nine games, with the last two coming against the New Orleans Pelicans and another requiring double overtime against the Dallas Mavericks.

“He’s improving,” Lawrence Frank said in a news conference Wednesday before the team’s home game against the Denver Nuggets. “With Kawhi, it wasn’t just a sprained ankle. He also had a significant sprain in his foot. His ankle, when he sprained his ankle, also set off a mechanism in his foot. He’s progressing really well. We’ll continue to treat him, he’ll feel on the road, but we’ll probably be better next week.”

The Clippers are now at the halfway point, and if Leonard’s status remains the same for Thursday night’s game, his next chance to return will be Saturday against the Charlotte Hornets, Sunday against the Cleveland Cavaliers or Tuesday against the Los Angeles Lakers.
