Keldon Johnson, full of energy

Keldon Johnson

During the second round between the Spurs and the Thunder, Keldon Johnson played a decisive role off the bench, with 25 points on 10/16 shooting and 5/9 3-pointers in a big victory for his team. San Antonio has shown up from behind the arc, though that’s an area where he’s usually quite timid as he’s averaging less than three shots from distance this season.

Aside from this huge contribution against OKC, since the start of the season, Keldon Johnson has stood out thanks to the energy he brings off the bench. Proof of that is his very good rebounding activity. An area where the winger is averaging a career-best 6.3 tackles a night and this “energizer” role is praised by his teammates.

“He always brings energy to the team” underlined by Harrison Barnes. “You can see him on the scoresheet, but even when you don’t, he’s still the heart of our team.”

Observation confirmed by Stephen Castle who explained that his teammate always continued to cheer the team regardless of whether he had a good or a bad game. for his part, Victor Vembanyama he says this energy is contagious.

Ready to adapt to any situation

Since arriving in San Antonio during the 2019 draft, Keldon Johnson has experienced all kinds of roles. If he was initially the undisputed starter at the start of the decade, especially with a solid 2022-23 season in which he averaged a career-best 22 points, he gradually transformed into a sixth or seventh man. A role that suits him perfectly.

“That’s my job,” Keldon Johnson simply sums it up after the win against OKC. “I pride myself on always doing what my team needs, whether I’m a leader or the one who brings energy, I can adapt to any role. I will always put my team first, even if sometimes it takes a little adjustment, that’s what motivates me every day, and now we’re playing for a bigger cause. We still have a lot to prove and we haven’t done anything to allow ourselves to be arrogant.”

On Christmas Day, Spurs and Thunder will cross swords for the third time this month. If Devin Vassell and Keldon Johnson shined in a row during the first two clashes, the latter confirms that another player could come out of his box during the duel scheduled for December 25: “We have the luxury of having a couple of guys that can catch fire. If that happens to somebody, then we’re going to pass the ball to them.”
