Kendrick Perkins agrees with G Herbo’s Derrick Rose over Michael Jordan

For many Chicago Bulls fans, Derrick Rose holds a special place in their hearts. Much of it is rooted in re-imagining what he could have been had his injuries not eaten him alive.

Sometimes it’s Rose mentioned next to Michael Jordan. Most recently, Chicago rapper G Herbo made a case that Rose was more popular than Jordan in The Windy City in the Shay Shay Club with Shannon Sharpe.

Former NBA player turned analyst Kendrick Perkins he agreed with himaccording to the Road Trippin Show.

“I agree with him. D Rose is bigger than Michael Jordan when it comes to being in Chicago,” Perkins said. “Like the people in Chicago from IN to the old people to the people who run the city, it’s like it’s their king.”

“D Rose is their king not only because of what he brought to the game of basketball between the lines, but what he did so much in that freaking community is unreal. Like they love him, they love him. Like I tell you, I was in Chicago during that time, it’s D Rose, D Rose, D Rose, D Rose, he might be the greatest person. If I had a statue I agree with him.

Granted, G Herbo said he was too young to appreciate Jordan. He also pointed out that Rose is from Chicago and will spend his prime years playing for his hometown team.

Derrick Rose was loyal to the Bulls and Chicago

All in all, Rose was a quintessential Chicago player. A kid who grew up in Englewood with a ball in his hand and a dream in his heart. That dream was first shown at the famous Simeon Academy, where the late Ben Wilson played.

In honor of Wilson, Rose was given the number 25, which is always awarded to Simeon’s best player. In 2009, he was drafted by the Bulls, and two years later he became the MVP.

Although he played for the Knicks, Cavaliers, Timberwolves, Pistons and Memphis Grizzlies, Rose’s heart was always in Chicago.

January 24, 2026 his jersey it will be raised on horns at the United Center.
