Kendrick Perkins announced Victor Vembanyama as the new face of the NBA

Kendrick Perkins made a bold proclamation this week, declaring San Antonio Spurs star Victor Vembanyama the the new face of the NBA during the latest NBA Today broadcast.

Perkins pointed to the rise of the Spurs and Vembanyama’s influence as the central reasons behind his attitude.

“You think about what the Spurs are doing right now, they’re checking all the boxes: they’re playing at an elite level… We didn’t congratulate Adam Silver and the NBA today. They actually found their new face of the NBA. Yes, Victor Vembanjame. He’s the new face of the NBA and if somebody wants to argue with me, we can argue with me, but we can lose an argument with me.”

Perkins expanded on his reasoning, citing Vembanyama’s willingness to embrace the spotlight and deliver results on the court.

“Here’s why: When you talk about a guy who embraces that role and embodies it, he wants it. He checks that box. When you talk about a guy who’s going to perform at a high level and do things we’ve never seen before, he’s going to do it. When you talk about a guy who’s going to kick ass, he’s not just kicking ass, he’s into it.”

Vembanyama (22) is in his third NBA season and continues to anchor San Antonio in the Western Conference standings. In 40 games, he is averaging 24.4 points, 11.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 2.7 blocks and one steal per game while shooting 51.1 percent from the field and 36.3 percent from three-point range in 29 minutes per game.

The The Spurs enter the weekend at 38-16, holding the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference and is riding a six-game winning streak All-Star festivities at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles.
