Kendrick Perkins makes a wild ’80-2′ declaration after OKC’s strong start
The The Oklahoma City Thunder came up with a basketball game to a degree that is approaching an unprecedented level. Currently, the Thunder are 23-1 and take a 15-game winning streak into their NBA Cup quarterfinal on Wednesday night against the Phoenix Suns. There’s no stopping the reigning champion Thunder as they look to use that Larry O’Brien trophy to take the next level of undefeated.
The Thunder’s strong start to the 2025-26 season has fans dreaming big. Some believe they could surpass the 2015-16 Golden State Warriors record of 73 wins and become the best regular season team in NBA history. But Kendrick Perkins goes a step further, stating that OKC is they will only lose one more game for the remainder of the 82-game regular season (there are 58 games left on their schedule).
“They might go 80-2. I mean this with every big bone in my body. That 73-9 record that Golden State got. OKC beat that this year, of course,” Perkins said in an appearance on the Road Trippin’ podcast.

Losing just two games in an 82-game season is nearly impossible. It’s safe to say that despite how great the Thunder have been, they won’t be able to break 80 wins in the regular season. But Perkins’ belief is not without credibility given how unstoppable they have been all year.
The Thunder could surpass the Warriors record of 73 wins

This The Thunder team is a generational great defensive team; they allow just 104.1 points per 100 possessions, six points less than the second-best defense (Houston Rockets). They have a net rating plus-15.9which is just insane.
The Thunder are on pace to set the all-time record for best net rating in a full season, and that should put them at 74 wins or more.
