Kenny Smith roasts Shaq after his attempt to speak Slovenian to Luka Doncic

Shaquille O’Neal tries to talk to a Slovenian Luka Dončić it wasn’t on our 2026 bingo card, but we’re here for it.
During the Jan. 25 episode of Inside the NBA hosted by Shaq, Kenny SmithErnie Johnson and Charles Barkley, they had Dončić as a guest. Shak tried to speak in Slovenian with Doncic, who is from Slovenia. The four-time NBA champion’s attempt drew a few laughs from his co-hosts.

“Luke and Kenny’s chemistry is too good! That accent comment cracked me up,” a fan commented the moment on TikTok. “It’s moments like these that make NBA interviews so much fun to watch.”
This is not the first time that Shak has tried to speak to Doncic in Slovenian. When he played for the Dallas Mavericks in 2021, Doncic did an interview with Inside the NBA after the game, and Shaq said “goodbye” to the then Mavs star in Slovenian.

Doncic who traded to the Los Angeles Lakers In February 2025, the Mavericks had an emotional reaction after the Lakers had won four times in four attempts. The Lakers beat Dallas 116:110, and Doncic scored 33 points and had 11 assists. Doncic revealed how he plays against them it still makes him emotional.
“There’s still emotion, believe me,” the NBA leader said after the game on Saturday night, January 24. “But a little better, a little easier for me. It’s amazing. I still have a lot of fans here, players, some other people. I’m happy to be back.”
The crowd was happy to see Doncic as he chanted MVP during the game while shooting free throws.
“The significance of this will probably be there for the rest of his career,” Lakers coach JJ Redick said before the game. “This is where it started for him. This is where he appeared in the finals for the first time. This is where he was drafted. The significance for our team is there, and it is certainly there for him.”
The Lakers will play the Chicago Bulls tomorrow night at 8 PM ET.
