Keshad Johnson is proud to join the family of the greatest dunks

After Mac McClungwho mostly shined in the G-League, the dunk contest crowned the new unknown, Keshad Johnsonan undrafted rookie on the Heat after leaving Arizona.

Congratulations to Mickey Arison, owner of the Heat and its president, the legendary Pat Riley, to the winner Slam dunk contest they still can’t get over being judged by legends in California.

“I’ve been watching the NBA forever. To be surrounded by all these legends… it’s literally a dream. I can’t put it into words. To be in the spotlight with Julius Erving, Dominique Wilkins, shaking hands… it’s crazy.” he confides. “I know who they are. Now they know who I am. We’re part of the same family. The next generation will come after me. Maybe they’ll look at me the way I looked at them. And I’ll be available to them.”

In a disappointing night of competition, Kesahd Johnson brought freshness and spontaneity. His happiness to be there was contagious, and not just because he celebrated each dunk with a few dance steps.

Inspire the heat to win the title

“Honestly, I’m very grateful to be here. It’s like home for me. I’m from the West Coast, from Oakland, California. It’s my home. It’s the West Coast. We have our own style. We have our own taste. It felt like home. When I saw everyone, the fans, it was just like I dreamed it would be.” he continues. “When you’re in a dream, you’re in control. In a dream, you can do anything. I felt the fans were with me. I just did what I know how to do, I did my best.”

Now he can’t wait to “bring the cup home”, and for his success to inspire his whole team.

“I’m bringing the trophy back. We’re going to have fun in the locker room. We’ve had a taste of what the trophy is. Now we’re aiming for the big one. We’re aiming for the big title. I hope it gives everyone energy.” he concludes.
