Kevin Durant almost had a nightmare with Chris Webber in his debut
With the score tied at 115 in overtime, the Houston Rockets faced the herculean task of forcing an Oklahoma City Thunder turnover in the final seconds of the game. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was still on the field and went on an incredible fourth quarter in which he scored the game-tying basket to extend the game to an extra five minutes. The Rockets then had a chance, and Tari Eason swallowed Gilgeous-Alexander’s mid-range shot to preserve the deadlock.
The ball then fell on Kevin Duranthands with two seconds left. The 37-year-old veteran, however, was unaware that the Rockets were out of timeouts and attempted to call for one — prompting Alperen Sengun to immediately strip him of the ball as time expired. The officials appeared to miss Durant’s timeout call and didn’t award the Rockets one — which it would be disastrous for Houston.
After the buzzer sounded, the entire Thunder bench protested the officials, signaling to the referees that Durant had clearly signaled a timeout, which should have been called. Had Durant been penalized for this, the Rockets would have been called for a technical foul and the ball would have been given back to the Thunder – a turn of events that would have put the game squarely in OKC’s favor.
But Durant dodged a bullet and has to thank his lucky stars that he called a timeout in live action, making it difficult for the officials to recognize. However, he he almost had his Chris Webber momentand this might be the biggest sign yet that the Rockets star is getting old.
Fans explode with reaction to Kevin Durant’s mistake in Rockets debut

Durant calling a timeout to cost the Rockets against the Thunder in his debut for his new team would be a cataclysmic way to end what was so bad in the opener. And fans won’t just let Durant get away with that mistake.
“Kevin Durant pulled Chris Webber lol. Sounds about right,” Ks user @juniorgarza86 wrote.
“Kevin Durant called a timeout the Rockets didn’t have. The refs saved him from becoming Chris Webber 2.0. We have double OT,” @CaitlinForThree he added.
“@okcthunder game refs need to be suspended already for this trash. @NBA is doing better. Do we have refs betting on games again? Clearly Durant called a timeout in front of the ref,” @TheShadiFive80 further.
