Kidd hopes the allegations won’t overshadow the NBA talent

The federal gambling investigation rocked the NBA world this week, Chauncey Billups, Terry Rozier and Damon Jones were arrested. It immediately became one of the biggest stories in sports, not just in the NBA. It also happened to be right when the NBA started to make a comeback, overshadowing some games on the court earlier in the year.
Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd made the remarks when asked about his thoughts on the gambling allegations when he spoke to the media. He was asked directly what he thought of the allegations, but instead dodged the question and talked about how he hoped that what was happening on the field would not be ignored.
Kidd said, “At the beginning of the season, we had an MVP score of 55 points. I see Victor score 40 points up close. I hope it doesn’t overshadow what these young men are doing because it’s a beautiful game and they play it at a high level and it’s fun to be a part of… I hope they fix it.”
Jason Kidd has a point because Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 55 points in a double overtime win over the Pacers in the second leg of the NBA Finals. Victor Wembanyama scored 40 points in Game 1 between the Mavericks and the Spurs.
However, this gambling investigation is spreading far and wide as its tentacles could reach the entire sport. Sport must be as fair as possible. However, when allegations of illegal gambling emerge with the idea of players potentially fixing games, that narrative will also expand as it may call into question the entire fairness of the sport in general.
One of the biggest stories in the NBA this year revolves around Kidd’s Dallas Mavericks and what they will look like with 2025 NBA Draft pick Cooper Flagg on their roster. It will also be interesting to watch how they use Flagg since they used him as a point guard.
