“My mindset is to try to open up and get my shoulders up and let them fly,” Thompson told reporters after the win. “When I do that, shoot with confidence, that usually works. I turned on a little heater at the end of that second quarter, I felt great. 23 points in 20 minutes is pretty good, so you carry that same flow into New York.”
Thompson struggled to start the season, but has played at a much higher level since being benched. The idea of a future Hall of Famer coming off the bench seemed unlikely when the season began, but Jason Kidd’s decision surprisingly helped Thompson.
“I think he’s shooting the ball at a very high level for us right now,” Kidd said of Thompson. “Just his gravity helps his teammates as well because it gives them the space to do what they have to do.”
Trade rumors about Thompson continued to swirl. However, nothing is guaranteed. However, Thompson certainly improves his trade value with performances like the one he had on Saturday.
Regardless of whether he gets traded or not, Klay Thompson will look to have a strong second half of the 2025-26 campaign.
The Mavs’ next game is Monday night in New York against the Knicks. Dallas will then return home for games against the Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Lakers.
