Klay Thompson was ruled out and Anthony Davis sat out the game against the Clippers


The Dallas Mavericks will be without two key veterans as they enter the second half of their back-to-back set. The team made the announcement on Saturday Klay Thompson and Anthony Davis has been ruled out for the match against the Los Angeles Clippers (5–14), scheduled for 10:00 PM ET.

According to Dallas’ Saturday afternoon injury report, Thompson did ruled out due to left knee injurywhile Davis is out with a left calf injury. Both players appeared on Friday night in the The Mavericks were defeated 129–119 by the Los Angeles Lakers in their final NBA Cup West Group B game.

Thompson logged 20 minutes in the loss, finishing with 10 points, one rebound and one assist while shooting 3-for-8 from the field and 3-for-6 from beyond the arc. The 35-year-old is in the midst of the most unproductive season of his career, averaging 10.3 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.5 assists while shooting 35.2 percent overall and 32.9 percent from three in 19 games, including eight starts.

Davis returned Friday for his first appearance since Oct. 29 and his first game back at Cripto.com Arena since being traded from the Lakers in Dallas last February. The 32-year-old forward had 12 points, five rebounds, five assists and three blocks on 6-for-10 shooting in 28 minutes. Despite missing significant time with a calf strain, Davis was statistically more productive than Thompson, averaging 19.3 points, 9.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.5 blocks and 1.3 steals while shooting 52.9 percent from the field in six appearances.

Dallas enters Saturday’s game on a three-game losing streak, part of a rough 5-15 start that has dropped them to the bottom of the Western Conference standings. Saturday’s contest marks the third stop on a four-game road trip that ends Monday against the Denver Nuggets (13-5). The Mavericks will then briefly return home to host the Miami Heat (13–6) on Wednesday at 8:30 PM ET on NBA TV.

With both Thompson and Davis sidelined, Dallas will look to its backup unit and the remaining pieces of the rotation in hopes of stabilizing a season that continues to slump due to injuries and roster inconsistency.
