Kristaps Porzingis, Zachary Rizacher, both out this week with injuries

After that The Atlanta Hawks lost to the Boston Celtics on Saturday, the team updated the star’s progress due to injuries Kristaps Porzingis and a newcomer Zachary Risacher. With Hawks surrounded by trade rumors before the Feb. 5 deadline, updates on Porzingis and Rizacher could prove crucial.

Atlanta would say in a statement that both Porzingis and Rizacher are “progressing” and that they will be “re-evaluated” in a week.

“Center Kristaps Porzingis, who has missed the last five games with Achilles tendonitis, is making progress in his recovery and will be re-evaluated in about a week,” the Hawks said in a statement, via Caleb Johnson. “Forward Zachary Rizacher, who has missed the last five games with a left knee bone contusion, is making progress in his recovery and will be re-evaluated in about a week.”

Porzingis has only played in 17 games this season, having missed the last five with Achilles tendonitis, making it a relatively frustrating season for the veteran to stay on the court. It’s been a healthier season compared to the No. 1 overall pick in the last draft, but Risacher is currently dealing with a bone contusion in his left knee.

While it is The Hawks added CJ McCollum to the team through the Trae Young trade, it appears the franchise could still be in line to make another big deal. Atlanta is connected to Dallas Mavericks star Anthony Davis, and NBA ClutchPoints insider Brett Siegel is mulling Rizacher being in the deal, especially if the team moves on from Porzingis.

“I think a pursuit of Anthony Davis would make sense if they want to move on from Kristaps Porzingis and are willing to sacrifice former No. 1 overall pick Zachary Rizacher,” Siegel said on Dec. 18. “And I think if Anthony Davis is healthy, that kind of deal makes a lot of sense for the Hawks because Anthony Dangv makes a lot of sense.”

In any case, it remains to be seen what will happen with both Porzingis and Rizajero in terms of injuries and trades.
