Kyler Murray’s future ‘in limbo’, Schefter says

Well, this is an unexpected development for Arizona Cardinals. Going into the season, that seemed like a given Kyler Murray he would be their quarterback for the foreseeable future. Murray had his mistakes, yes, but there didn’t seem to be any possibility of Arizona getting the hands of a better quarterback.
Well, Murray’s injury this season paved the way for one quarterback to shine. Jacoby Brissett did remarkably well in place of Murray, leading the Cardinals stunningly through three games. Some might even say that Brissett is outscoring Murray this season.
Because of this, Murray’s future with the Cardinals appears to be in jeopardy. Adam Schefter said as much in his recent report for ESPN quarterback’s future with team ‘in limbo’ as both sides enter a crucial off-season.
“The Cardinals must decide by this offseason whether to try to trade Murray, release him or pay another $19.5 million in guaranteed money that is due on the fifth day of the new league year in mid-March,” Schefter wrote. “Arizona and Murray are expected to have extensive discussions to determine whether to go together or go their separate ways. Many sources believe the latter is the likely outcome, with one source saying this week that a ‘separation is imminent.'”
Murray was placed on injured reserve earlier this week, forcing him to miss another four weeks of play. Brissett, meanwhile, took over the role of KB1. The Cardinals’ offense looked better with Brissett, averaging 25.7 points and 357 yards in the three games he played. In contrast, Murray has started five games, with the Cards averaging 18.8 points and 288 yards per game in those starts.
The Cards’ struggles with Murray have raised some questions about the quarterback’s play. The former first overall pick has been pretty inconsistent throughout his career, but he has helped lead the Cardinals to the playoffs at least once. However, this dismal performance could spell the end of his time in Arizona as they try to move on from quarterback.
