Kyrie Irving’s potential return from injury this season has been updated

DALLAS — The The Dallas Mavericks are dealing with a host of injury concerns heading into Thursday night’s game against the Golden State Warriors. Among the injured Mavs is Kyrie Irvingbut will he be back this season? Speculation has swirled about Irving’s possible return in 2025-26 after recovering from ACL surgery. Before Thursday’s game, the Mavericks’ head coach Jason Kidd he told reporters that the team’s standings will have “nothing to do” with whether the future Hall of Famer plays this season.
Kidd also said Irving is in “good spirits” amid his recovery from the injury, but confirmed it’s still there there is no official timeline for the return.
“Well, nothing new, I know there’s a lot of speculation,” Kidd said. “But he’s working extremely hard from rehab. … Spending some time with him yesterday, he’s in a good mood, he’s feeling great. There will be a timeline at some point, but there’s no timeline right now. … Don’t take this out of context, but he wants to come back, he wants to play.
“But when you’re coming back from an ACL, it’s a matter of time. … There’s going to be a schedule at some point.”
Kidd later added that the schedule could be secured after the All-Star break.
There’s a chance fans will be able to see Kyrie Irving play during the 2025-26 season, regardless of whether or not the 12th-ranked Mavericks move up in the standings. That said, Dallas will proceed with extreme caution as Irving — who turns 34 in March — tries to recover from the injury.
