Several Dodgers stars, Mookie Betts, Will Smith, Teoscar Hernandez, Blake Snell, Tyler Glasnow and Evan Phillips, are expected to be on the field as the city is celebrating his second consecutive MLB title, per The Athletic’s Dan Voike.
The Dodgers’ World Series victory over the Toronto Blue Jays this year went the distance, and Game 7 at Rogers Center in Toronto ended in an 11-inning thriller. Smith’s go-ahead home run in the top of the 11th gave Los Angeles a 5–4 lead, and World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto brought the Dodgers’ championship story to a climax with a double that Betts turned in moments later.
The victory made the Dodgers the first team since the 1998–2000 New York Yankees to win back-to-back World Series titles. Monday’s championship parade drew a huge crowdand Wednesday’s Lakers tribute will be the next stop in the city’s celebration.
The celebration also has special significance for sports in Los Angeles. Dodgers owner Mark Walter, who was officially approved as the new majority owner of the Lakers last week, now oversees both franchises, linking the city’s two most storied teams closer than ever. Magic Johnson, the Dodgers’ minority owner and Lakers legend, also expressed pride in the franchise’s continued success.
The Lakers enter the night with an impressive 6–2 record while dealing with early injuries, including LeBron James’ sciatica. They will host the 5–1 Spurs, led by early MVP favorite Victor Vembanyama, in one of the first early Western Conference matchups.
