LA cut Chris Paul overnight in shocking fashion

In a shocking way, Los Angeles Clippers they are cutting ties with the franchise legend and quarterback Chris Paul. The move comes at 3:00 a.m. EST amid the Clippers’ road trip and five-game losing streak.

This move caused a shock in the NBA overnight, with many are wondering what happened between the Clippers franchise and Chris Paul, a player considered by many to be the greatest player in franchise history.

Paul first hinted at the news via the road cryptic post on Instagramsaying “I just found out I’m being sent home,” with a peace emoji.

Shortly after, the LA Clippers released a statement to ClutchPoints, saying the team was officially parting ways with Chris Paul.

“We are parting ways with Chris and he will no longer be with the team,” Clippers president of basketball operations Lawrence Frank said ClutchPoints said in a statement. “We will work with him on the next step in his career.”

“Chris is a legendary Clipper who had a historic career. I want to make one thing very clear. Nobody blames Chris for our poor performance. I accept responsibility for the record we have right now. There are many reasons why we have struggled. We are grateful for the impact Chris has had on the franchise.”

It’s unclear what happened to prompt the move at 3 a.m. ET during the team’s road trip, currently in Atlanta to take on the Hawks. The Clippers are coming off an embarrassing loss to the Miami Heat in which Tyronn Lue pulled his starters two minutes into the third quarter.

Every starter would eventually return to play in the game except James Harden, who finished -39 in 20 minutes. Chris Paul played 15 minutes in the contest and finished with eight points and three assists.

Through the first 21 games, Chris Paul averaged just 2.9 points, 1.8 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 0.7 steals per game while shooting 32.1 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from three in 16 games. Just a year before he played in all 82 games with the San Antonio Spurs for 28 minutes per game, Paul was clearly showing his age, but, according to the statement, that wasn’t a big reason for the Clippers’ struggles in the early parts of this season.
