LA fans are not going to like Tanner Scott’s latest update

After leading MLB in the regular season with 10 shutoutsfans were happy to see Tanner Scott kept from Los Angeles Dodgers‘ playoffs and, by extension, the World Series roster in a feat of history repeating itself.
of course Dave Roberts said the decision was not based on performance, with Scott having an abscess procedure during the run, but the Dodgers certainly didn’t miss their expensive reliever option, with the combination of Rocky Sasaki, Blake Treinin and eventual World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto holding things together in the ninth inning en route to a second straight Fall Classic win.
So, naturally, with Dodgers looking to add another high-profile arm to the back end of their bullpenit would make sense for scott’s tenure with the team to end, be it a trade or even a full release, wouldn’t it? Well, not necessarily, because during his press time at the MLB GM meetings in Las Vegas, Brandon Gomez let it be known that Scott is still in the mix close the games for the 2026 Dodgers.
“He’s certainly one of the guys in that group,” Gomes said, via Fabian Ardaia. “I think we’ve seen it in the past with guys, there’s player volatility. Unfortunately, we’ve seen it happen in the past with other great relievers. So our full belief is that Tanner will come back and have a great year for us next year, and he’ll be in the mix to play late games.”
Should the Dodgers add another closer to their roster before spring training begins? Yes, they certainly should, as all of the best options available will likely be off the table before the team can see if Scott has regained his vintage form in the spring. Why? Because closers are incredibly in demand at worst, the Dodgers end up with two quality arms to close games, which is a lot better than having zero, as was the case for most of 2025, even if the final results somewhat negate that.
