LA is cleaning house in the scouting department with a massive layoff

The The Los Angeles Lakers announced Thursday that both Joey and Jesse Bass were relieved of their duties in the front office. The organization appears to remain busy, making several key changes, as reports indicate that the scouting department is being reshuffled.

Los Angeles is cleaning house completely, as is most of the staff in the scouting department are releasedaccording to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin. It’s currently unclear what direction the Lakers want to take in the front office, but the franchise has seemingly felt it necessary to shake things up with the scouting team.

“In addition to the Los Angeles Lakers firing Joey and Jesse Bass on Thursday, a large portion of the scouting staff was also fired, sources told ESPN.”

for years, Lakers strategy was acquiring star talent either through free agency or via trade. The changes being made on Thursday could indicate that the CEO Rob Pelinka wants to completely change that strategy.

At 11-4 and firmly in the Western Conference mix, perhaps the Lakers are aiming to find better talent through future drafts to build around 26-year-old star Luka Doncic. That could give the team better stability in the long run, especially when LeBron James eventually retires.

We will have to wait and see what moves the Lakers make in the coming days. For all we know, there could be more fires. But for now, it appears the franchise is looking to clean things up in the basketball operations and scouting departments.
