Lakers’ Rob Pelinka gives props to Andrew Friedman after the trade deadline

The The Los Angeles Dodgers are currently gearing up for the 2026 MLB season, in which they will attempt to defend their World Series title in 2025. Despite being the reigning two-time champions, the Dodgers have been quite busy in the offseason, signing both Edwin Diaz and Kyle Tucker on the free agent market and drawing further ire from the rest of the MLB landscape in the process.
One person who has a lot of respect for what the Dodgers do is Los Angeles Lakers general manager Rob Pelinkawho recently made a move of their own by acquiring sharpshooter Luke Kennard.
Recently, Pelinka spoke aboutn his respect for the Dodgers’ president of baseball operations, Andrew Friedman.
“Being able to use a person like Andrew Friedman for best practices. He’s so incredibly smart and he’s done such an incredible job bringing championships to the Dodgers,” Pelinka said, per ESPN’s Dave McMenamin on X, formerly Twitter.
The Dodgers and Lakers are now owned by Mark Walter, who completed the purchase of the Lakers from the Buss family last year. Of course, the Dodgers have one major advantage that the Lakers don’t, which is the advantage of MLB’s lack of salary cap, which has prompted accusations that the team has essentially been allowed to buy World Series championships in recent years.
Still, the Lakers will be happy to know they have an owner willing to shell out serious money, even if the NBA landscape has limits on how many top players a team can acquire.
Friedman may have the best infrastructure in the world at his disposal, but he’s still done a good job of convincing the world’s best free agents to swallow their pride and join Los Angeles year after year.
Either way, the Dodgers’ season should begin in late March.
