Why the Lakers could cover the spread/win

The The Lakers are struggling on the boardsand that’s incredibly strange, considering they were in the top 5 in that category. Unfortunately, the defense was also a problem, and Austin Reeves took charge for woes. The Lakers are 28th in rebounding and 18th in blocked shots, highlighting some lingering issues. Despite these problems, the Lakers still hold the lead in the Pacific Division and enter this game with a record of 22-17. Additionally, they are currently tied for fifth place in the Western Conference.

Anthony Davis did not play on Friday, as he was a late scratch due to a foot injury. Significantly, expect him to be a game-time decision again unless the Lakers release him early. Davis has been excellent this season, averaging 25.8 points and 11.9 rebounds per game while shooting 52.3 percent from the floor.

LeBron James also has a foot injury, but he played. He is averaging 23.8 points, 7.5 rebounds and 8.8 assists per game while shooting 51.6 percent from the hardwood, including 40.2 percent from beyond the arc. Austin Reaves had a great game on Friday, scoring 14 points and 14 assists while shooting 5 for 9. Ultimately, he averaged 18.5 points and 6.1 assists per game while shooting 44.3 percent from the field. games. Rui Hachimura is also playing well, averaging 12.1 points and 5.2 rebounds per game while shooting 48.7 percent from the field, including 41.9 percent from three.

The defense has had mixed results recently. After allowing 126 points in an ugly home loss to the San Antonio Spurs, the Lakers allowed just 108 to the Miami Heat and 101 to the Brooklyn Nets.

The Lakers will cover the spread if their offense succeeds immediately and builds a significant lead. Next, they must defend well, and not allow the Clippers to break through the middle.

Why the Clippers could cover the spread/win

The Clippers are looking for frontcourt depth and a corresponding reserve for Ivica Zubac. Overall, the Clips are 14th in rebounding and generally play well. But there are still pieces they need for the Clippers to contend on a regular basis. The Clippers also have almost a full roster.

Kawhi Leonard has played four games and is averaging 12.3 points per game. While the Clippers have learned to play without him, he is still an elite player (when healthy) and can be a catalyst for this game. Norman Powell has been outstanding all season. He averages 23.7 points per game and shoots 49.2 percent. Meanwhile, James Harden continues to be solid, averaging 21.4 points per game. Zubac was a force in the game, averaging 14.9 points and 12.5 rebounds while shooting 61.7 percent from the floor.

The Clippers need to contain James and Reaves while forcing them to release to their teammates. If Davis plays, Zubac must overcome this difficult task and not let him pass. Whoever plays the best in the second quarter will have all the momentum, which means the bench has to show up to play.

The Clippers will cover the spread if they can score early and keep the Lakers on their heels. Next, they need to win the scrimmage and prevent the Lakers from getting easy shots.

Final prediction and selection of Lakers-Clippers

The Lakers are 19-20 against the spread, while the Clippers are 25-15 against the odds. Furthermore, the Lakers are 8-11 against the spread on the road, while the Clippers are 14-6 against the spread at home. The Lakers are 7-1 against the spread when facing the Pacific Division, while the Clippers are 6-1 against the odds when facing the division.

The Lakers are plagued by injuries and the Clippers are a better team than they were when the season started. Consequently, I think these factors will make a small difference, but the Lakers will keep this game and cover growth on the road.
