Landry Shamet still keeps his place with the Knicks
As last year, Landry Shamet will make the “cut” at the Knicks’ preseason buzzer. Signed to a non-guaranteed contract to participate in training camp, the guard was again a big prep school winner on the New York sidethe franchise announced yesterday that it has called it quits Garrison Matthews, Matt Ryan etc Alec Lenand saved the last of 28 yearspassed through Philadelphia, Los Angeles (Clippers), Brooklyn, Phoenix and Washington.
Even if Garrison Matthews also showed interesting things in a similar shooting style after his best NBA season with the Hawks (7.5 ppg on 39% 3-point shooting), the choice of Landry Shamet to take the 13th spot on Mike Brown’s roster became obvious after the sudden announcement of Malcolm Brogdon’s retirement. Above all, he shows a more experienced and complete profile, especially on the defensive end, than Garrison Matthews, in addition to already knowing the house.
The latter did not participate in the last preseason game, which was won against the Hornets on Friday, while Landry Shamet had his biggest game since the restart (11 points in 20 minutes). He averaged 5.7 points and 1.2 rebounds per 15 minutes in the regular season with the Knicks last year.
With thirteen guaranteed contracts and three “two-way deals,” the Knicks could begin the season in this configuration before committing to signing a 14th player within two weeks, which could be French Mohammed Diawaraformer Cholet Basket who has made a good impression the last three weeks.
