League to meet with committee on FBI indictments

U after the charges against Chauncey Billups, Terry Rozierand Damon Jones, the NBA set up for a meeting with a United States congressional committee, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.

“The meeting is billed as a briefing for members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee and will include discussions about the league’s partnership with sportsbooks and measures to prevent the illegal use of non-public information, sources said,” Charania wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

House and Senate committees sent letters to the league after Billups, Rozier and Jones were among 34 people arrested in a federal investigation into alleged sports betting and poker schemes.

Jones is scheduled to be arraigned on Nov. 6, Billups on Nov. 24, and Rozier on Dec. 8 in federal court in Brooklyn.

Billups hired attorney Mark Mukasey to represent him in the federal investigation, according to the New York Times. Mukasey has previously represented President Donald Trump, Edward Gallagher and Rudy Giuliani. Billups, head coach of the Portland Trail Blazers, was arrested the day after the season opener.

Jrue Holiday, who was traded to the Trail Blazers in the offseason, said yes shocked to hear the news on Billups, according to ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne.

“Chauncey was really solid for me when I was first traded here, just being able to see things through my lens and ask me what I want,” Holliday said. “Not many coaches would do that. But he understood because he was also a player in this league.”

As for Rozier, he has been accused of defrauding the bookies, using confidential information about when players will sit or not play due to injuries. Rozier is charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and conspiracy to commit money laundering.
