LeBron James admits he ‘wakes up with shit he didn’t have the night before’

On Monday evening, The Los Angeles Lakers have regressed down to Earth with a huge loss of house in hands of the Phoenix Suns. Despite playing mostly at full strength, Los Angeles was powerless to stop Phoenix during this game, despite the fact that Devin Booker had to leave the game early with an injury.

For a while it looked like LeBron James‘ double-digit scoring streak dating back to 2007 may be in jeopardy, but the Lakers shamelessly gave him the ball on back-to-back fourth-quarter possessions with the game out of reach to make sure it stayed intact.

After the game, James spoke foot injury it kept him out of the previous night’s game against the New Orleans Pelicans.

“It’s called old. … You just wake up with s— that you didn’t have the night before,” James said, according to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin on X, formerly Twitter.

James will turn 41 later this month and recently became the only player in NBA history to reach his 23rd season in the league. So far, the results have been mixed for the former four-time NBA MVP in 2025-26, as he’s seemed more than willing to accept a secondary or even sometimes tertiary offensive role behind Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves, but he’s also clearly not the same player he once was.

The good news for the Lakers is that James was able to re-enter contention during a weak point in their schedule, but things will start to get a little more difficult later this week when they begin their Eastern Conference road trip. That momentum will begin Thursday night against the Toronto Raptors at 7:30 PM ET, followed by a game against the Boston Celtics.
