LeBron James ‘feuded’ with Damon Jones before gambling charges

Consequences over FBI investigation into illegal gambling activities in the NBA continues. Moreover, the Los Angeles Lakers are caught in the glare of it all because of Damon Jones.

Jones, a former assistant coach, was charged with conspiracy to commit fraud and money laundering. Earlier this month, Jones pleaded not guilty in federal court.

In addition, Jones allegedly conspired with gamblers to provide injury information on the status of key players. In turn, bookies would bet on the opposing team. One of those players Jones allegedly provided information on was LeBron James.

On Monday, Brian Windhorst of ESPN reported that James was cut off Jones before the indictments. Before that, James and Jones were very tight.

“LeBron is very much into routine,” said one former Laker member. “For a while, recording with D-Jones was part of his routine.

According to court documents, the FBI says it has a text message Jones allegedly sent to gamblers. This encourages them to bet on the Milwaukee Bucks during a game in which James did not play.

“Place a big bet on Milwaukee tonight before the info is out! (James) tonight. Bet enough Jones can eat now too!!!”

However, Jones had a different outlook on life at the time.

“My confidence has never gone, never in my life,” Jones said in 2008. “I usually come out the other side smelling like roses.”

At this time, Jones and his attorneys have declined all interview requests.

How the Lakers responded to the investigation

Since all of this happened, the Lakers have been cooperating with the FBI. They provided the documents, and the assistant coach and executive administrator volunteered their cell phone information.

Meanwhile, sources say James he had no prior knowledge Jones’ activities.

In addition, James remains uninvolved in any legal proceedings.
