LeBron James reveals the most surreal part of breaking Kareem’s record

The Los Angeles Lakers have been playing well lately, currently sitting at 19-8 despite a recent loss to the rival Los Angeles Clippers. LeBron James played well in that game, scoring 36 points and leading the team’s offense with Luka Dončić is coming down with an injury, joining a host of Lakers already out to begin with.
James is of course the game’s all-time leading scorer, and he recently took to his podcast “Mind the Game” to find out what the craziest part about breaking Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s record in 2023.
“There are certain stats in the history of sports that you just don’t think will be broken, and that was one of them. And to be able to accomplish that feat without trying to accomplish the feat, I think it’s even more surreal for me. I’m first in all points, but I’m also on the sideline, in first-court assists, ex-NBA,” James said on Twitter.
Indeed, James has often been known as a player who is more than willing to defer to his teammates, which has even drawn criticism throughout his career. In fact, James’ historic double-digit scoring streak was recently snapped when he decided to pass to Rui Hachimura for the final shot against the Toronto Raptors, which ended up going through the net to give the Lakers the win.
While James is at or near the top of several statistical categories due to the sheer longevity of his career, it’s pretty amazing that he’s managed to become the all-time leading scorer while also being accused of not being aggressive enough at times.
In any case, the Lakers will next take the floor on Tuesday night against the Phoenix Suns.
