Lonzo Ball claims LA shouldn’t have traded for Anthony Davis

The The Los Angeles Lakers are trying right now to find out if they have a legitimate championship roster surrounding LeBron James and Luka Dončić this year. Doncic was shockingly brought in last year in the trade he sent Anthony Davis to the Dallas Mavericks, ending Davis’ tenure with the Lakers after helping them to the 2020 championship.

Of course, Davis himself acquired a treasure trove of assets when he was traded from the New Orleans Pelicans to the Lakers in 2019, and has recently been one of the key members of that trade, Lonzo Ballhe continued to speak why he thinks The Lakers should have been more patient.

“Unpopular opinion probably even though I feel like I could have played with D’Angelo Russell honestly. I think maybe they should have just kept all these guys and see how it went, but I think they still got a ring, so, you know, it worked out for them,” Ball said via the Ball in the Family podcast with Lonzo and Gelo Ball on YouTube.

Indeed, the Lakers won a championship in Davis’ first year with the franchise, even though they found themselves in dire circumstances in the NBA Bubble in Orlando.

Ball, meanwhile, has had his ups and downs throughout his NBA career, but is currently a serviceable backup point guard for the Cleveland Cavaliers.

It certainly would have been interesting to see how he and Brandon Ingram would have grown alongside LeBron James had Anthony Davis never entered the equation, but the NBA is about winning championships, and the Lakers were able to accomplish that goal with Davis and James at the helm.

Either way, Ball and the Cavaliers will face his old Lakers team for the first time this year on Jan. 28 in Cleveland, a game he makes sure to circle on the calendar every year.
