Lucas Giolito gets ‘100%’ update after previous elbow injury

Lucas Giolito was a consistent performer for Alex Cora and the Boston Red Sox whenever he would stand on the mound for most of the season. However, near the end of the regular season, elbow problems prevented Giolito from showing his best results. When the Red Sox reached the postseason, Giolito was not placed on the active roster.
It was a big disappointment for Red Sok. They were able to beat the New York Yankees in Game 1 of the Wild Card Series behind pitching ace Garrett Croshe, but failed to win either of the other two games. The Sox were forced to go with unproven rookie Connelly early in Game 3, and while he did a respectable job, he couldn’t keep the Yankees in check and Boston lost the deciding game.
Giolito worked to regain his strength and health. He said imaging tests revealed no structural damage to his arm and he was diagnosed with flexor tendon irritation.
According to reportshe is on a regular pitching program, and another source told MassLive.com that Giolito is making improvements.
Giolito should become a free agent
The pitcher has a $19 million option to remain with the Red Sox through the 2026 season, but that option is likely to be mutually declined. The Red Sox are still likely to make a $22 million qualifying offer to the right fielder because if he signs second, the team will receive draft pick compensation.
Red Sok will face a busy offseason in terms of free agency. In addition to Giolito’s status, the Red Sox will likely try to keep third basemen Alex Bregman and Trevor Story. Bregman has already announced that he is opting out of his contract after his first year with the Red Sox even though he said he loves playing for the team.
Storey had a brilliant comeback season and looks set to figure prominently in the team’s plans for the 2026 season.
