Luka Doncic became the fastest LA player in history to reach 2,000 points

On Monday night, The Los Angeles Lakers retained their winning streak with a comfortable road win over the Chicago Bulls. Luka Dončić excelled in this game, pouring in 46 points on the night, and electrifying the crowd with several contested 3-pointers late in the fourth quarter to sweeten the road game.

Doncic has been on a tear for the Lakers this season, leading the league in scoring and establishing himself as an MVP candidate.

Namely, it was recently revealed that Dončić has set a a new Lakers franchise record with his shooting prowess.

“Luka Doncic only needed 65 games to become the fastest Laker.” EVER to reach 2,000 points, surpassing the great George Mikan (72 games),” reported ClutchPoints on X, formerly Twitter.

Points were never an issue for the former No. 3 overall pick, who the Lakers acquired from the Dallas Mavericks about a year ago in the most infamous trade in NBA history.

However, for both Doncic and the Lakers as a whole, there are some question marks regarding their defensive prowess, as Los Angeles currently ranks near the bottom of the league in defensive efficiency. The Minnesota Timberwolves discovered this problem last year in the first-round playoff series between these two teams, and it hasn’t been fully resolved in the offseason, although Marcus Smart has helped on that part of the floor.

Still, many fans are hoping that general manager Rob Pelinka will try to resolve the issue at this year’s trade deadline, which is set for Feb. 5.

However, even if that issue isn’t resolved, Doncic’s otherworldly scoring ability, combined with the firepower of LeBron James and Austin Reeves when healthy, should be enough to give the Lakers a shot in every game.

Los Angeles will next take on the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday night.
