Luka Dončić gave up the “special” award for playing against Dallas

It was an emotional night for Luka Dončić on Friday. Doncic helped his Los Angeles Lakers to victory over Dallas Maverickshis old team. Lakers star open to the press after the match about what it meant to him to play Dallas.
“I would say it’s a little easier now, but the games against Dallas always have a special meaning for me. I still have a lot of friends there. It’s fun… It will always be special for me,” Doncic told the Dallas Morning News.

Doncic and his Lakers beat the Mavericks 129-119. Doncic finished his night with 35 points and 11 assists. It was a very special season for Doncic, who is averaging 35 points per game this season.
The Lakers are now 14-4 on the year. Dallas, meanwhile, is struggling through a 5-15 season. The The Mavericks fired general manager Nick Harrison earlier this seasonwho was responsible for the trade of Doncic to the Lakers.
That infamous trade that sent Doncic to Los Angeles also sent Anthony Davis to the Mavericks. While Davis has been consistently attacked since joining the Mavericks, he played Friday night. Davis finished the game with 12 points and five rebounds.
Mavericks fans lost Doncic very hard. The Dallas franchise experienced protests outside the arena last season due to the infamous trade, which included other players. Mavericks fans are still angry that Doncic is playing so well in Los Angeles while Davis has struggled.
Davis received a warm reception though from LA fans on Friday.
“In his return from a 14-game absence with a strained calf, Davis received a loud, warm reception from Lakers fans when he was introduced as the Mavs’ starter. The big man is beloved in LA after teaming with James on a championship run over 5 1/2 seasons with the Lakers,” the Associated Press reported.
Davis could also leave the Mavericks soon. The Detroit Pistons are rumored to be interested in trading for him, as well as some other teams.
