Luka Doncic hilariously rejects Austin Reeves’ friendship after Jazz win

The The Los Angeles Lakers are on the moveas they moved to 11-4 on the 2025-26 season with a 140-125 win over the Utah Jazz on Tuesday night. The vibes in the Lakers locker room are spot on right now, especially with elder statesman LeBron James making his season debut with 11 points and 12 assists to start his 23rd NBA season. One of the main highlights of the Lakers season so far has been the blossomed friendship of Luka Doncic and Austin Reeveswith two continuous exchanges of playful jabs on social media.

But their banter with each other goes into the field. During Doncic’s interview with Spectrum SportsNet after the Lakers’ win over the Jazz, Reaves approached and interrupted interview, patting his teammate on the shoulder and telling him, “Good job, my friend.”

This caused Doncic to shake his head, who couldn’t seem to believe what he heard from his Lakers teammate. Trudel then probed the two’s friendship, and Doncic doubled down on his friendship dynamic with his fellow guard.

“He wants to be my friend, but I don’t allow it,” Doncic said sullenly, holding back his smile.

Trudel then asked what Reeves could do to convince Doncic to be his friend. The Lakers star then piled on the cheers.

“Nothing. He can’t do anything (to be my friend),” added Dončić.

“He looked amazing in the first game… He will help us a lot.”

Nothing says two people are friends more than when they take this much crap from each other like Doncic and Reaves. And their relationship translates into some wins, too — which makes it even more fun for Lakers fans.

James is 40 years old, so as great a player as he remains, he can no longer be counted on to be the man for his team every night. On Tuesday, he left it to Doncic and Reaves, preferring to take on the role of playmaker. Meanwhile, Doncic and Reaves combined for 63 of the team’s 140 points.

This a lighter responsibility for James on offense it should help him stay fresher and healthier for the rest of the season in preparation for what the Lakers hope will be a deep playoff run.
