no LeBron Jamesnor of Luka Dončić next week for the Lakers. Based on historical statistics (43 and 49 points in the first two outings), Doncic sprained a finger on his left hand and must rest for at least a week. The Slovenian will then be re-evaluated, although he also has a left leg contusion. The former Mavericks player played Friday’s game against the Wolves with his thumb and middle finger in a bandage.
Los Angeles will have to turn their backs, while Luka Doncic should miss at least the next four games. Starting with California’s matchup against the Kings the following night, then hosting the Blazers on Monday night, and traveling to Minnesota on Wednesday, then to Memphis on Friday for Game 1 of the NBA Cup. Doncic’s participation against the Heat next week is also up in the air.
Without their two main players, JJ Redick will have to lean on more Austin Reaves (25.5 points, 10 assists average in the first two games of the season) to create as well as score. Athletics reporter Dan Woike specifies, however, that the Lakers are not long-term concerned about this injury, even if it would further complicate the start of the season.
The Lakers will also have to do without Jackson Hayesinjured his knee Sunday against Sacramento.
