Luka Doncic torments Kevin Love in a surreal sequence against the Jazz

In an unusual arrangement, Los Angeles Lakers had four days off between games before their Sunday night clash against the Utah Jazz. While rest is generally good for NBA teams, this extended layoff seemed to take a toll any Lakers rhythm. But they hit their stride when it mattered most and held off a late charge by the Jazz for a 108-106 victory to move to 12-4 on the season.

Luka Dončić had another incredible outing, finishing with 33 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists in the game-winning effort. And as is the case with the Slovenian superstar, there is never a dull moment with him. In the second quarter, Dončić delighted even the visiting audience with his classic Luka Magic game.

With 4:43 left in the first half, Doncic intercepted a bad pass from Kevin Love. Just to rub even more salt in the wounds of the Jazz veteran, the Lakers star dribbled the ball between his legs to mount a major transition attack that culminated in Jackson Hayes’ emphatic lobbying.

Doncic is at his best whenever he’s having fun on the field. And the Lakers have given him an ecosystem in which to thrive. LA handed him the keys to the team, and it’s no coincidence that they’ve enjoyed a strong start to the new campaign.

And at the age of 26, Dončić will be doing this for the Lakers for a long time — which should scare the rest of the NBA.

With the game in its final minutes, it looked as though the Lakers would enter the finish line without much fanfare. They were up by double digits with less than three minutes left, but let their foot off the gas and allowed the Jazz to claw their way back into the game, keeping it in the game until the final seconds.

Alas, Keyonte George missed what would have been the eventual game-winner, and the Lakers can now breathe a sigh of relief.
