Magnificent Warrior Heist in Phoenix!

In a match without Stephen Curry nor Devin Booker, the Warriors and Suns still rely on offense. Just like two days ago against the Sixers, Golden State is pulling out all the stops. Twenty of their 23 shots in the first quarter came from behind the 3-point line, for a 35% success rate. Conversely, Dillon Brooks (24 points) and Grayson Allen (21 points) shine and put Phoenix ahead (29-25).
Steve Kerr’s men don’t change their tune. De Anthony Melton (17 points), Gary Peyton II (15 points, 8 rebounds) and Moses Moody scored from long range, and Golden State reversed the trend (45-39). The Suns are not to be outdone, but a few turnovers keep the Warriors confident. Pat Spencer (20 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists) makes 3/3 threes to keep his team at +7. It took two Jordan Goodwin bunts to limit the damage at halftime (59-55).
Pretty Crazy “Money Time”
Spencer continues his momentum as soon as he returns from the locker room. He leads the Warriors to +10 and breaks his record for points in a game with twenty minutes to play (66-56). The Golden State address, however, suddenly disappears. They scored just two points over the next nine minutes, lost five turnovers and saw Grayson Allen go on a 26-10 run to give Phoenix back the lead (82-76).
The Suns then immediately brought the point home by opening the final quarter with an 8-0 lead. Colin Gillespie’s 3-pointer gives them a 14-point lead (90-76), but Golden State doesn’t give up. Al Horford (13 points) and De’Anthony Melton complete a 17-5 run that brings the Warriors back into the tie with a minute left (97-97)! The Suns’ offense then stalled. Gillespie tries an individual feat, but Moses Moody answers him, and Guy Santos (18 points, 7 assists) goes for a layup on the other side. Dillon Brooks, although well defended by Moody and Melton, tried to win the match with a 3-point shot, but did not find the target, and Golden State made an unexpected hold!
WHAT TO REMEMBER
Golden State’s 3-point shooting contest. They already had easy trigger against the Sixers two days ago, the Warriors beat Phoenix last night. At halftime, they had 37 3-point attempts and only 10 doubles! They made 41% of their attempts from distance before the break, including a surprising 10/17 for the trio of Pat Spencer – Guy Santos – Gary Payton II. Unlike the Sixers, however, Golden State’s skill disappeared in the third quarter (1/10). While the game slipped away from them, they still found the resources to come back. Despite 72% of their shots being taken from behind the 7m25 line, it was their defense that made the difference at the end of the match. They held Phoenix to 15 points in the final quarter for the win.
Dillon Brooks considered himself too handsome. For the fifth time in six games, Dillon Brooks reached 24 points. Facing his best enemy, Draymond Green, and the Warriors he can’t support, the former Rocket played a fair three quarters (21 points, 9/18 shooting). Like his team, he believed the match was in order at the start of the final period. He could never find his rhythm again. He missed 5 of his 6 shots in the final quarter, including a forced 3-pointer that could have given his team the win.
Pat Spencer is waiting for his contract. Pat Spencer beat his game scoring record (20 points, 6/10 on 3-pointers) playing his 50th and final game of his “two-way contract.” With the uncertainty surrounding Stephen Curry’s knee, the Warriors should quickly offer him a standard contract to finish the season with them. Spencer is really in Steve Kerr’s small papers. The coach likes the way his leader sets up the game. He also went from 22% 3-point shooting to over 40% this season.
