Malachi Tonei ignites the Indiana defense with a key TD in the 4th quarter
If ever there was a team that was good enough to handing Indiana football its first defeat season, during the CFP National Championship game no less, it was Miami football. Quarterback Carson Beck and wide receiver Malachi Toney have been playing great string music all season, and in such a crucial moment, Toney scored an impressive touchdown out of the backfield.
With Miami trailing by 10 in the fourth quarter, 24-14, they needed a touchdown to stay alive against college football’s top powerhouse. The quarterback threw to Tony, who ran 22 yards and shook off a few tried to fight back from Indiana to keep the Hurricanes alive, 24-21.

Toney was so impressive that he evaded Indiana defensive back Louis Moore’s initial tackle to get things going for Miami. He then braked and hit two defenders with an epic spin, knocking them off their feet and sending them crashing into each other. Even then there was a chance that his legs would be cut off.
Instead, the Miami receiver kept his poise and composure and waltzed into the end zone to give Miami a one-possession lead.
Miami loses steam as Indiana’s football dominance shines

Doc Miami ended up losing, 27-21, as they couldn’t execute later in the game, this play shows what a great pro Tony would one day be and why NFL scouts are salivating at the possibility of adding him even though he is far from draft eligible as a true freshman.
Indiana football went 15-0 on the season, so Toney and the rest of the Miami football roster can hold their heads high knowing there’s no shame in losing to one of the greatest teams in college football history. Indiana QB Fernando Mendoza has just been too good all year.
