Malik Beasley’s ‘fate’ in FBI sports gambling probe is up in the air

The NBA world may have woken up to some strange news when it found out Terry Rozier had been arrested because of a federal gambling investigation. Maybe an hour later, the head coach of the Portland Trail Blazers Chauncey Billups was also arrested due to alleged illegal gambling.

This has led many to look Malik Beasleyalthough he was originally released by the league. Unfortunately, it looks like the government is taking matters into its own hands, and Beasley’s fate could be up in the air according to Pablo Torre.

“Sources say (Pablo Torre) Malik Beasley’s fate also depends on the DOJ’s announcement. And that MB was previously investigated and approved by the NBA for ‘a bet or two on another sport’. Source: “The NBA is strictly confidential, but you can’t control the government,” Torre wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

It’s uncertain at this point what Beasley’s future might look like, but with him currently a free agent, teams won’t have to go out of their way to change their roster or be involved in the investigation.

More than a month ago, Beasley’s attorney, Steve Haney, gave a statement about the investigationclaiming it was a “misconduct investigation”.

“They are conducting an internal investigation, more of a misconduct investigation to determine if there are any rules that were violated through the collective bargaining agreement,” Haney said, via The Detroit Free Press. “That investigation is currently ongoing and we are cooperating, providing whatever information we can to hopefully clear Malik up so he can continue his free agency.”

“Certainly with this news of the investigation, which we weren’t responsible for, this leak, basically, from the Eastern District of New York definitely caused him to lose some opportunity in free agency, and hopefully there’s still a way he can still get back on track for next season.”

For now, it appears that many, including Beasley, will be in wait-and-see mode.
