Malik Monk lets it all out in reaction to the Keon Ellis trade
The The Sacramento Kings have begun a busy trade deadline seasonfollowing the Trae Young trade with their own deal weeks later to get things going again with days left until the deadline. They dealt Dennis Schroder and Keon Ellis to the Cleveland Cavaliers in exchange for De’Andre Hunter, in what many assume is the first of several moves to come for a Kings team that is currently 12-39 — dead last in the West.
Little by little, the Kings are chipping away at their Beam team; only three players remain from their 2023 playoff team, and those two (Malik Monk and Domantas Sabonis) were heavily involved in trade rumors.
This continues the precipitous decline for the Kings, and the morale level in the locker room must be in the gutter. A monk, in particular, expressed his sadness to see Ellis, with whom he had built a close friendship during the three and a half seasons they spent together.
“That’s my dick, man. Man, I hate to see somebody that I’m close friends with leave, but obviously it was, they wanted to leave, and I feel like the team, (Kings general manager) Scott (Perry), thought it was best for us to let them go. And yeah, man, it sucks to see all the guys go, especially, like I said, like I said, close, when I said,” 1140.

Kings to be even busier in the trade market

The Kings’ decision to trade Schroeder and Ellis should be just the beginning. Domantas Sabonis is reportedly attracting serious interest on the market from the Toronto Raptors, while DeMar DeRozan and Zach LaVine could become targets for teams in need of a punch. Monk could be a good buy considering how inconsistent his role has been this season.
Whatever the case, something has to change for this Kings team that currently sits at the bottom of the Western standings.
