Mark Cuban’s role suddenly changed after Nick Harrison left, according to Insider

Earlier this week, Finally, the Dallas Mavericks did what the fans longed for and fired CEO Nick Harrison. The move came nine months after Harrison’s disastrous decision to trade Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers, and has since watched his team stumble out of the gates to a 3-8 start this year despite getting lucky with Cooper Flagg in the lottery last season.

Some wondered how different things would be on Dončić’s front Mark Cuban didn’t sell the team to the Dumont family shortly before and recently ESPN NBA insider Tim McMahon took on the Hoop Collective podcast shed light about how Cuban could now step back into a bigger role in the organization.

“It went from zero to something. What exactly, I’m not sure. He’s not just the richest mascot in the world anymore,” McMahon said.

“I will say this, he walked off the floor with Patrick Dumont after the loss to the Milwaukee Bucks on Monday night,” he added.

Mark Cuban is known to have made many basketball decisions during his time as the majority owner of the Mavericks, leading the team to win the NBA Championship in 2011 and also ushering in the Luka Doncic era in the late 2010s.

Harrison’s time as general manager immediately became a ticking time bomb the moment he inexplicably decided to end that era in early February, and now that the team hasn’t turned into the champions he predicted, Dallas had no choice but to pull the plug.

It remains to be seen what new role Cuban will play in the organization, given that it is still run by the Dumont family. However, Mavericks fans will likely welcome any help from a familiar face at this point.
