Mark Spears shares NBA manager’s harsh stance on Ja Morant’s trade value
The The Memphis Grizzlies may not be in full crisis not yet, but they could be soon if they don’t solve their most pressing problem at the moment, which is problem solving I Morant the situation. Morant’s mood is deteriorating in the locker room, he’s fighting with the coaching staff, and he’s been playing poorly of late — as the Grizzlies have lost three straight games.
Morant even admitted it he feels no joy when you dress on the hardwood, which is concerning and really a red flag, especially for fans who got involved with the Jimmy Butler situation last season. The Grizzlies are unlikely to trade Morant given how much they value him as a cornerstone of their franchise, but their hand could be forced if these issues continue.
However, even if the Grizzlies get to the point where they want to trade Morant, they may have a hard time doing so. ESPN Insider Mark Spears provided insight on how other teams view the Grizzlies.
“Four executives I spoke with today say they really have no interest in trading for him. One said it’s a combination of contract and off-court issues. Another suggested that if Jha is traded, he’ll likely be a problem star for a problem star. I asked one current NBA coach if he’d be willing to coach Ja Morant and he said he’s not sure I’ll be in the NBA today.”
Marc Spears on what people around the league are saying about Ja Morant:

Morant’s trade value continues to decline with every passing issue involving him, and at some point, his reputation makes him a difficult player, at least in the eyes of some talent evaluators and coaches.
The best thing the Grizzlies can do is try to repair the relationship and get it back to where it was in the past, but it’s not entirely clear that’s possible in this situation.
Ja Morant, the Grizzlies haven’t recovered from their 2023 slump

During the 2022-23 season, it looked like the Grizzlies were making the official leap to powerhouse status, as they were near the top of the Western Conference all season long. And then Morant got involved in a series of off-field incidents, and the league had to step in and suspend him. Since then, everything has changed for the Grizzlies, and they have been a middle playoff team in the Western Conference ever since.
Considering how much baggage there is with Morant, the Grizzlies may have to move on, one way or another.
